After a problem or need is identified, the design team begins generating possible solutions. During this stage, often called the ideation stage, many ideas (resonable and otherwise) are collected. The ideas may come from individuals or may be developed in team brainstorming sessions. Whether from a group or an individual process, concepts may not be suitable as solutions but can still serve as springboards to generate ideas that address a later problem. Technical sketching is frequently used during the ideation stage. The ability to freely create technical sketches lets you present and share ideas and record them so you can refer back to solutions , inspirations, and breakthroughs that come to light during this creative stage of the process.

It is very important to keep a record of everything created in this stage as you may need to draw on ideas that were rejected at a later time.
